Is The Media Giving Enough Coverage To UK Bullion?
UK bullion (and bullion in general) has been hitting the headlines a lot recently. The worth of gold and silver is at an all time high. One ounce of gold now costs over 1,500 US dollars; whereas silver now costs 44.45 US dollars.
Some subscribe to the school of thought that UK bullion is getting nowhere near the amount of media coverage that it deserves.
We need to ask ourselves if we have been aware of UK bullion’s media coverage? If so, where in the media did we hear about it.
As you would expect, the rise in gold and silver’s pricing has seen it garner some media attention. There have been features on it on BBC Radio 4 and a story on the subject has a prominent place on the BBC website.
Some will argue that this media coverage is well overdue.
For example, over the past eight years, silver, as an investment, has outperformed gold. Not a lot of people know this, although it is quite an outstanding fact. Most would have assumed this story would have received at least some media attention.
And why is it only now that gold is receiving media attention? In April, gold set a new record for its price nearly every day.
In the last year alone, the value of silver has nearly doubled. This, surely, is worth some media coverage. The people need to know about UK bullion.
Perhaps we can cut the media some slack, after all, there are only so many column inches. There are so many news stories vying for a place in the mainstream media. It is difficult for the UK bullion industry to makes its voice heard.
Gold and silver shouldn’t always be prioritised in the news. It is fair to say that the topic has been overlooked in the media.
