The Feeling are a five-piece BRIT award-nominated British pop rock band from Sussex and London. The Feeling categorise their music as “pop”. Their name comes from a neon sign seen on a bar (Le Feeling) in Paris. The majority of the band are from Horsham, Sussex, with the exception of lead vocalist Dan Gillespie Sells, who is from London, and bassist Richard Jones, who is from Forest Row, in Sussex. Sells and Jones met as music students at the BRIT School in Croydon, Surrey in 1995. They were members of one of the school’s most popular bands, Horn.
The band members worked as session musicians for several years before coming together as a group. The Feeling has its roots in a cover’s band called Superfly, which Paul Stewart and Ciaran and Kevin Jeremiah played in, and which also acted the house band on the Richard Blackwood show. Feeling spent a lot of time performing as resident band at the La Tania ski resort in the Alps before their début doing covers (such as “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles and “Reign In Blood” by Slayer), and after the line-up of the Feeling had been completed, they continued to use the name Superfly, as it was easier to get bookings.
On 5 June 2006, The Feeling released their debut album, Twelve Stops and Home, which reached #2 in the UK Albums Chart. The first single, “Sewn” reached #7 on the UK charts in March 2006, followed by the top ten hit “Fill My Little World” in May 2006. The release spent four consecutive weeks at #16 and outsold the band’s debut single. “Never Be Lonely” was released in August 2006 and became their third top ten hit, peaking at #9, where it stayed for two weeks. “Fill My Little World” was used in the farewell montage on the last ever The Vicar of Dibley on New Year’s Day 2007 and an edited version of “Love It When You Call” appeared in the 2007 film Good Luck Chuck, and several of their songs appeared in the 2007 film, Hostel Part II.
The Feeling second album, entitled Join With Us was released on February 18, 2008, with the first single “I Thought It Was Over” entering the UK charts at #12 on February 10, 2008 on the strength of downloads alone. The album peaked at #1 on the UK Charts, making it the band’s first album to reach the #1 spot. The majority of the album was recorded at the Bradley House – a stately home in Maiden Bradley near Warminster, Wiltshire (home of the Duke of Somerset), whilst most mixing was carried out in Los Angeles, California.
In 2006, The Feeling toured the United States, opening for The Fray and strengthening their following across the Atlantic. In November 2006, just days after returning from the US, The Feeling headed off on their first major UK and Ireland tour. It continued intermittently until January 2007. The Feeling also headlined a mini-tour of the UK’s forests around June 2007. The Feeling performed at the 2008 V Festivals in Chelmsford and Staffordshire in August.
The Feeling are currently recording their third studio album with producer Bob Ezrin, which is due to be released sometime in 2010. The Feeling have already confirmed that they will play at the Isle Of Man Bay Festival in June and a special concert at Epsom Downs Racecourse in July. Singer, and wife of bassist Richard Jones, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has confirmed that she has done a duet with the band on their third album. She said in an interview on The Album Chart Show that the song is called “Leave Me Out Of It”.

Audio Visual for Business by
For most people, Audio Visual (AV) simply means presentation equipment such as projectors and screens but recently things have changed. Now businesses all over the world are making use of flat screen displays, video and audio conferencing and all kinds of digital signage to get their message across to prospective clients. This feature takes a look at how the latest AV equipment is used in business today.
Okay, we all know that winning business is all about making the right impression on a prospect and, as every good sales person agrees, first impressions are the most important. It follows that getting your initial AV presentation right is absolutely essential if you want to stay ahead of your competition.
In the past this has involved a lot of fragile, and often rather heavy, equipment but all that has changed. The latest projectors (which are also known as ‘beamers’ in most European countries) are powerful enough to let you present in almost any lighting conditions and weigh about the same as your laptop computer. They are rugged enough to take the ‘rough and tumble’ of corporate life and good looking enough to fit comfortably into a boardroom environment.
‘State of the art’ projectors can now be linked to your computer via a wireless network so all you need to do is plug them into a power socket – no more trailing wires. Connection is down to a single mouse click and these superb business tools can focus themselves automatically. Best of all, many are now fitted with a clever ‘keystone’ adjustment facility that takes away distortion caused by projecting up onto a screen.
But that isn’t the end of the story. Business uses for AV equipment now include digital signage in public spaces like sports grounds, bus and railway stations. Hotel reception areas and office building atriums often have control systems that deliver up to the minute information on electronic devices such as plasma screens and LCD panels. Somewhat remarkably, it is even possible to project business critical information and images onto a screen of water!
Audio visual equipment is at the heart of video conferencing facilities. With great images and superb audio coupled with the latest advances in data transfer speed it makes sound sense to stay home and communicate via video conference rather than travel to meetings.
Aside from the obvious travel cost savings, video conferencing is extremely good for the planet. With world attention firmly focussed on the reduction of carbon emissions most businesses have embraced carbon footprint reduction with enthusiasm. Video conferencing offers a ‘win win’ situation for all concerned.
One of the most effective business uses of Audio Visual equipment is in telephone call centres where information needs to be given to many operators simultaneously without distracting them from their ongoing call. Screens can feed business critical information from multiple sources to a single output that can be seen by all.
As you can see, audio visual equipment is now part of everyday business life. Experts agree that information is the lifeblood of commerce; now the latest AV developments can help you share that knowledge and so build a more powerful business.
Reflex is an audio visual installation specialist. They only deal with the very top end of Audio Visual Needs, supplying the big names with the technology they need.Graham Baylis uses AV equipment quite extensively in his business life, and realises the power that reflex can impart to business today. http://www.reflex.co.uk
