DAB Clock Radio: Best stations to start your day
You’re sleeping peacefully, lost within the slumber of the evening when, suddenly, out of the clear silence comes the sound of that song you can’t stand polluted by a patina of static. What a way to start the day. Wouldn’t it be nice to start the day with a positive, rather than a negative?
Well, now you can. Pick yourself up a DAB clock radio and set it to one of these five UK-based radio stations. Depending on your personal tastes, at least one of these stations will aim to please.
BBC Radio 5 Live:
For those news junkies, this station serves up live news and sports programming twenty-four hours a day. Wake from 6am to 9am to the banter of Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty who cover news from the UK to across the world. At 9am Nicky Campbell answers calls and discusses current events.
Choice FM:
Billed as an “Urban Contemporary” music station, Choice FM features hip-hop, R&B, reggae, soul, and rap from the black community. Martin Jay hosts the Choice Breakfast Show from 6am to 10am and spins the latest in Urban hits with a healthy dose of humour to start the day with a smile on your face.
Classic FM:
For those classical music aficionados, Classic FM boasts the world’s largest collection of listeners with 10 million and counting. The station’s music is as diverse as the world of classical music, with programming that ranges through the ages. Wake up to Mark Forrest from 6am to 9am or John Suchet at 9am. The morning crew at Classic FM will ensure you don’t wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
Classic Gold FM:
Hosting a widely diverse selection of music, Classic Gold FM plays four decades of music, from the ’60s through the ’90s. Join Paul Coyte from 6am to 10am each weekday morning for the Gold Breakfast Show. Who knows, maybe you’ll be a big winner in their “Six from the ’60s” contest. All you have to do is identify one song and its artist to win £1000. If that doesn’t wake you up, I don’t know what will.
XFM:
If guitar is your thing, then you’ll be jamming when the alarm goes off. XFM programmes a diverse selection of alternative guitar music and the newest, cutting-edge bands on the scene today. Dave Berry hosts the morning show starting at 6:30am and is sure to give you an energetic start to your day.
